Catherine Weller

MEDIUM: Fabric, paper

STUDIO LOCATION: 116

Catherine works in a variety of textile techniques, including shibori, screen and block printing, painting, resist dyeing, snow dyeing, and ecoprinting, sometimes combining several techniques in one piece. She uses fiber reactive and acid dyes as well as indigo and other natural dyes. Her influences include textiles from many cultures, informed by working with diverse museum collections as a curator and educator. She also uses dyes to make paste paper, which involves manipulating colored paste to form patterns. The paper is then used to make collages, including landscapes and abstract designs.

Catherine studied at Mass College of Art and has taught classes and workshops in a wide variety of textile techniques. She was a co-founder of Print & Dye Works, a non-profit organization for fiber artists, and served on the board of the Brandford/Elliott Award for Excellence in Fiber Art.
